CPAs Helping Schools - established in 1991, this program encourages CPAs to become actively involved with the education of the youth in Texas. Dedicated to improving the quality and scope of education, kindergarten through grade 12, this initiative provides a way for Society members to get actively involved in supporting area schools. Financial grants are provided to numerous schools where it has been identified that there is little or no significant business partnership. Grant Applications are accepted throughout the year; grants are awarded in September, January and April. Contact CHS Staff Liaison Carol Spencer with any questions, or to request a Grant Application. Uniforms and books are collected to provide these necessary items to schools serving at-risk students. Finally, through its partnerships, CPAs Helping Schools sponsors a math or accounting fellowship for a local educator through Fund for Teachers and two student s cholarships are awarded to candidates identified through the Junior A chievement program. Donations for these initiatives are collected through the "chapter scholarship/helping schools" checkoff on the TSCPA and Houston CPA Society Joint Dues Statement issued each April. Donations are also welcomed throughout the year - just complete the contribution form and send with your check or credit card information.
