  • Accounting Scholarship Endowment (designed to perpetuate the accounting scholarship program)
  • CPAs Helping Schools (supports area PreK – 12 students through its Grant Program)
  • Scholarship Extravaganza (net proceeds benefit ALL students in the area)

CPAs Helping Schools - established in 1991, this program encourages CPAs to become actively involved with the education of the youth in Texas. Dedicated to improving the quality and scope of education, kindergarten through grade 12, this initiative provides a way for Society members to get actively involved in supporting area schools. Financial grants are provided to numerous schools where it has been identified that there is little or no significant business partnership. Grant Applications are accepted throughout the year; grants are awarded in the fall and spring. Contact CHS Staff Liaison Carol Spencer with any questions, or to request a Grant Application. Uniforms and books are collected to provide these necessary items to schools serving at-risk students. Finally, through its partnerships, CPAs Helping Schools sponsors a math or accounting fellowship for a local educator through Fund for Teachers and two student scholarships are awarded to candidates identified through the Junior Achievement program. Donations for these initiatives are collected through the "chapter scholarship/helping schools" checkoff on the TSCPA and Houston CPA Society Joint Dues Statement issued each April. Donations are also welcomed throughout the year - just complete the contribution form and send with your check or credit card information.

Community Services Committee – the members of this committee volunteer their expertise to provide qualifying 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations with volunteer assistance upon receipt of a Nonprofit Assistance Request Form. The committee also sponsors a series of educational seminars for nonprofit organizations.

Financial Literacy – this initiative is a growing concern at all levels - government, community, family. Information can be found at the AICPA's CPA Financial Literacy Resource Center.

Scholarship Extravaganza – Net proceeds fund a minimum of 30 current Accounting Scholarships for fifth-year students attending the 8 universities in the Houston area, supplement the Accounting Scholarship Endowment established to guaranty ability to fund scholarships into the future and provide resources for CPAs Helping Schools activities and grants for Pre K – 12 schools in the greater Houston area. Go to the Event page for information on available sponsorship levels and individual tickets.
